Project Narrative

A 1993 pioneer of bioclimatic facade design: a living double skin where an inner glass curtain wall is fronted by 2,700 m² of climbing plants (bougainvillea, jasmine, plumbago) on steel cables on the N, E and W facades. The vegetated screen filters solar radiation, reduces cooling loads, and creates a dynamic seasonal aesthetic. Finalist, Mies van der Rohe Prize 1998. Named among Chile's best buildings of the 20th century.
