Project Narrative
Campus Joachimstraße is David Chipperfield Architects' Berlin studio (2013), formed by adding four volumes to a 19th-century piano factory in Mitte. The key innovation is the monolithic insulating concrete wall system: a single element provides structure, thermal insulation, weatherproofing, and interior finish simultaneously. Offset large windows at each floor create varied sightlines and calibrated daylighting. RIBA EU Award 2014 and BDA Preis Berlin 2015. Building physics by Müller-BBM GmbH.
